Stay away from those cookies with chocolate chips,” some older Rayadites pleaded. “You are developing a taste for chocolate.”

“They’re just old. They don’t want us to have any fun,” mumbled the young Rayadites.

The princess heard the warning. Something inside told her the older Rayadites were right, but what about her friends? The people eating the cookies were more popular than those who weren’t.

“Hobdob, it’s working,” crowed Zynock. “It’s time to introduce a new product.”

“Chocolate cake?” Hobdob’s eyes got big.

“No, not chocolate cake, not yet. We have to be very patient in this business, Hobdob. If we move too quickly, the Rayadites will notice. They want to be good and they want to feel like they are not being disobedient . . . and yet they are curious and like to have a good time. So we will work on their curiosity and their excitement over things that are just a little scary and edgy. We are going to introduce spice cake, yellow cake, carrot cake, and white cake—all covered with rich, thick chocolate frosting.”

Bakeries cropped up all over Rayad. Before long, popular music artists began performing songs about how good chocolate cake tasted. Zynock smiled to himself as he noticed young Rayadites with iFads in their ears, listening all day and night to his catchy tunes and rhythms about eating chocolate cake.

“They’re eating cake and they’re eating chocolate. They’re singing songs about eating chocolate cake, and constantly thinking about it even though they haven’t eaten it—yet.” Zynock was pleased with his plan.

But Hobdob wasn’t happy. He felt as sick and lonely as ever, and he worried about the Rayadites who were falling into Zynock’s trap without realizing it.
